HOW CAN I BECOME A CHELSEA POLICE OFFICER?


To become a police officer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Applicants must:

1.      Be a U.S. citizen (birth or naturalized).
2.      Be a resident of Massachusetts.
3.      Be at least 21 years of age.
4.      Possess a High School Diploma or have a G.E.D. Certificate or served at least 3 years in the United States Armed
         Forces with an honorable discharge or release.
5.      Possess a valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator's license.

Preference is given to applicants applying to work at the Chelsea Police Department for the following reasons

1.      Veterans
2.      Those who live within the city of Chelsea
3.      Children or siblings of fallen officers
4.      Applicants of certain racial/ethnic backgrounds (as required by federal consent decree)

Other Requirements

1.      Take a written Examination given by the Commonwealth Of Massachusett's Human Resource’s Division
2.      Pass a comprehensive background investigation
3.      Pass an interview board
4.      Pass a Medical Screening
5.      Pass a Drug Screening
6.      Pass a Psychological Screening
7.      Pass a Physical Agility Test
8.      Complete a 22—30 week police academy
